changing the face of men’s health
Movember is a global movement dedicated to changing the face of men’s health. Through mustaches, community, and conversation, it raises awareness and funds for three key issues: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s mental health. Since 2003, Movember has funded over 1,300 projects around the world, helping men live longer, healthier, and more connected lives.
My motivation
In 2023, my father was unexpectedly diagnosed with prostate cancer. Thankfully, it was caught early, and after months of treatment and determination, he is now cancer-free. During that same time my family faced another heartbreaking reality, we lost my cousin, Braedon Christopher Metz, to suicide. These two life-altering events left me searching for answers and struggling to make sense of it all.
It was in those difficult moments that I found Movember. Their resources provided not only essential information about men’s health but also a compassionate community that offered strength and support. Movember’s emphasis on mental health awareness and the importance of early cancer detection deeply resonated with me, fueling my passion for advocacy.
My Journey
Since joining the Movember movement in 2024, I have raised nearly $30,000 for men’s health initiatives around the world. Each year, I take on a new challenge that tests my limits physically and mentally, reflecting the challenges men face in their own health journeys.
In 2024, I ran the Auckland Marathon in New Zealand, finishing in 3 hours and 46 minutes. In 2025, I trekked through the Italian Dolomites, climbing across some of the most beautiful and demanding terrain in Europe. Next, I will climb Mount Kilimanjaro in March, continuing this mission to raise awareness and funding for men’s health.
These experiences are more than physical goals. They are reminders of why this cause matters and opportunities to start real conversations about men’s health. Every climb, every mile, and every conversation reinforces one message: men’s health matters
Impact
Mental health
Movember is working to change how society approaches men’s mental health by funding programs that focus on prevention, early intervention, and social connection. Their initiatives include community-based projects, digital mental health tools, and workplace programs that teach men how to manage stress and support one another. Movember also partners with researchers and organizations worldwide to better understand the causes of poor mental health in men and reduce the global male suicide rate by 25% by 2030.
Prostate cancer
Prostate cancer affects millions of men globally, and Movember is leading efforts to improve how the disease is detected, treated, and managed. The organization funds groundbreaking research into precision medicine, advanced screening methods, and new therapies that improve outcomes and reduce side effects. Beyond research, Movember supports programs that help men navigate life after diagnosis — focusing on recovery, mental health, and quality of life. They also advocate for better access to healthcare and encourage regular check-ups and early testing.
Testicular Cancer
As the most common cancer in young men aged 15–39, testicular cancer is a major focus for Movember. The organization supports education campaigns to help men understand the signs, perform self-checks, and seek medical advice early. Movember also funds global research into treatment innovation and survivorship care, ensuring that men diagnosed with testicular cancer not only survive but thrive after treatment. Their initiatives include patient support networks, clinical trial funding, and resources for men dealing with long-term physical and emotional effects.
